I’m always up for trying a new workout now and then just to mix things up. And the start of a new year is a good time to see what’s out there. So, what’s hot for 2014? The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) predicts the top 20 fitness trends for the year. Here are a few of my favorites.
High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)
Short bursts of activity followed by a short period of rest or recovery, usually done in less than 30 minutes. Great for when you’re short on time but don’t want to skimp on your workout.
Body Weight Training
It’s about more than just push-ups and pull-ups. There are plenty of exercises you can do using your body weight to keep things interesting.
Functional Fitness
This is a trend toward using strength training to improve balance and make getting through your daily activities easier. We could all use a little of that, right?
Group Personal Training
Training two or three people at a time – makes economic sense for the trainer and the clients.
Yoga
Power Yoga, Yogalates, Bikram, Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Kripalu, Anurara, Kundalini, Sivananda and more!
